“We pride ourselves on using seasonal ingredients in a simple and delicious way,” enthuses Raju. “That means that we change everything on our menu every two months, so there’s always something new to try.”

Since 2016, Dumbo has transformed a former West Footscray milk bar into a stylish neighbourhood cafe serving great coffee and vibrant, Insta-worthy cafe dishes. In fact, owner and hospitality veteran Raju Ghimire counts eighty people as his regulars – yes that’s eight and zero. As many of them visit him at Dumbo daily, he not only knows all of them by name – he knows their coffee orders too. “The people here are amazing,” says Raju. “They are so friendly, generous and supportive. The staff have all worked together since the beginning so we’ve really gotten to know everyone who comes in.” On any given day you’ll find Dumbo’s light-filled dining room filled with parents from the nearby school dropping in for a coffee (made with beans from local roaster Rosso Roasting Co), or locals brunching from the ever-changing menu. With warmer weather on its way, Raju and his team are looking forward to setting up an outdoor area in the two car park spaces outside Dumbo. The parklet will offer outdoor dining for up to thirty people, with a canopy to deal with Melbourne’s unexpected weather patterns and an abundance of greenery. “We can’t wait to invite people to Dumbo’s new green space,” smiles Raju. “I think the community is going to really love it!” To learn more visit the directory listing.
